The School for Special Education (Escuela de Educación Especial) in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, is a school for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The school is partially supported by a grant from a large international foundation.
True Roots carried out a community assessment for the school, meeting and surveying school students, staff, parents and community members. The donor organization wanted to better understand beneficiary and stakeholder:
- Motivations, expectations, and concerns
- Hopes and dreams related to their participation
- Leadership, communication, and teamwork styles
True Roots also uncovered how project impact was being measured by the school, and identified project sustainability components and opportunities.
Following the assessment, True Roots developed a work plan to strengthen and expand the school and professional job training activities for students.
